We strive to create the very best programs and activities
that will aid in the spiritual growth and development of every child!
Sunday Mornings at Emmanuel
Children’s activities are offered during the academic year – September through June - for everyone from age 3 through adult. Formation hour is from 8:45 to 9:45. All activity groupings are based on the age or current grade placement in school.
Nursery (infant to 3.5 years)
The nursery program is available Sunday morning for infants to children 3.5 years old during Formation Hour and the 10:00 a.m. service (8:45 - 11:15 a.m.. The goal of the Nursery program is to provide a safe, healthy and pleasant environment for Emmanuel's youngest members. Our professional staff is committed to providing you the peace of mind to make your worship experience a positive one, while your children enjoys a comfortable and pleasant experience while away from you. All of our Nursery staff is certified by the Diocese of Southern Virginia in Safe Church practices and are dedicated to the spiritual nurture and well being of our children.
Godly Play (Age 3.5 -- 5)
The result of a lifetime of research and practice by theologian, author and educator The Rev. Dr. Jerome Berryman, the Godly Play® method is a curriculum of spiritual practice exploring the mystery of God’s presence in our lives. The Godly Play curriculum engages what is most exciting about religious education: God inviting us into—and pursuing us in the midst of—Scripture and spiritual experience. Godly Play practice teaches us to listen for God and to make authentic and creative responses to God’s call in our lives.
Spark (Kindergarten - 5th grade)
Spark Lectionary is a curriculum with lessons that correspond to the Revised Common Lectionary which helps children get more out of both worship and Formation. Each week, children and their leaders gather together to explore their Bibles, enjoy fun activities, pray, and grow in faith. Spark is a Bible-centered program at its best.
Children’s Chapel (4 years old- 2nd grade)
Children’s Chapel meets every Sunday during the 10:00am service. Children meet in the sanctuary and process out together, where they go to the Children’s Chapel room for their lesson. Using the lectionary based Living the Good News curriculum, the leaders guide the children through the Gospel reading using stories, songs, games and art activities. The children then return to the service during the Peace.
